Official music video for "Angel Dream (No. 2)," directed for Warner Music in collaboration with the Tom Petty Estate following Tom's passing. Adria Petty wanted a piece that could genuinely honor her father.
Tom had an affinity for surreal art, and the concept grew directly from that: a Dadaist-inspired, psychedelic rock poster homage brought to life as collage, textured with the literal detritus of Joshua Tree and nodding throughout to his love of fine art Surrealism. Rather than illustrating the lyrics directly, each visual works as a surrealist counterpoint to them.
The technique paired collage textures with surrealist visual logic — biblical angels rendered plainly and without spectacle, a mountain range dissolving into sand falling through an hourglass. Using contemporary digital techniques, CGI, and animation tools in conjunction with traditional media, cut paper, and scanned paintings, the piece became a living rock poster bespoke to Tom Petty's legacy.
