In March 2016, we launched our TV channel, VICELAND with all original content made by VICE. The network was a way for us to understand our world across a broad range of subjects, tones, and high and low cultures. Together with Gretel, we created a brand identity system with a functional aesthetic completely counter to any TV channel to date.
Instead of a slick and predictable network package, the solution was an unbranded system, utilizing blunt and reductive typography, colors, messaging and motion.
It provided a blank canvas but also a way for us to break past the clutter and noise — to be human, curious, and imperfect — which has really resonated globally with each international launch of the network.
